Martial Law

Definition

Martial law is when military forces take control of normal civilian functions of government, especially during times of emergency or civil disorder.

Analogy

Imagine if your school principal was suddenly replaced by a strict disciplinarian who enforced rules with zero tolerance and limited certain freedoms you used to enjoy - like free periods or extracurricular activities. That's similar to how martial law works; it replaces regular laws with stricter ones enforced by military authorities.
