The Rig Veda Caste System refers to the social hierarchy described in ancient Hindu scriptures called 'Rig Veda.' It divided society into four main groups or 'varnas': Brahmins (priests), Kshatriyas (warriors), Vaishyas (merchants/farmers), and Shudras (laborers).
Imagine society as a human body. The Brahmins are like the head - they guide and make decisions. Kshatriyas are arms providing protection. Vaishyas represent thighs supporting body weight through productive work while Shudras are feet doing groundwork.
Dharma: In Hinduism, it signifies duties, rights, laws, conduct or virtues to be followed according to one's caste.
Untouchables/Dalits: They were outside this caste system and faced severe discrimination; performed tasks considered impure or dirty.
Jati system: A sub-categorization within each varna, based on occupation and birth.
