Definition

Subjects refer to the individuals or objects that are being studied or observed in a statistical experiment. They can be people, animals, plants, or any other entities of interest.

Analogy

Think of subjects as the actors in a movie. Each actor plays a unique role and contributes to the overall story. Similarly, subjects in statistics play a crucial role in providing data and insights for analysis.

Related terms

Population: The population refers to the entire group of subjects that we are interested in studying. It includes all possible individuals or objects that share certain characteristics.

Sample: A sample is a subset of the population that is selected for observation or study. It represents a smaller group from which we gather data to make inferences about the larger population.

Sampling Frame: A sampling frame is a list or representation of all the subjects in the population from which a sample will be drawn. It serves as a reference for selecting individuals to be included in the study.
