Definition

Prediction involves using available information to estimate or forecast future events or outcomes. It uses patterns and relationships in data to make educated guesses about what might happen next.

Analogy

Predicting the weather is like predicting outcomes. Meteorologists analyze current weather patterns, historical data, and other factors to make predictions about future weather conditions. Similarly, in statistics, we use data and patterns to predict future outcomes.
