Definition

Categorical data refers to data that can be divided into categories or groups based on qualitative characteristics.

Analogy

Imagine you are collecting data on favorite ice cream flavors among your classmates. Categorical data would be when you categorize each person's response into different flavors like chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry.
