Definition

These are thoughts or actions where an individual intentionally causes harm to themselves, often as a way to cope with emotional pain or distress.

Analogy

Imagine driving a car but instead of avoiding obstacles on the road, you purposely steer towards them causing damage to your vehicle. That's similar to self-harmful thoughts and behaviors - deliberately hurting oneself instead of seeking help or healthier coping mechanisms.
