A dielectric is an insulating material that can be placed between the plates of a capacitor to increase its capacitance. It reduces the electric field and stores electrical energy.
Think of a dielectric as a fluffy pillow between two metal plates of a capacitor. Just like how a pillow separates and cushions your head from the hard surface, a dielectric separates and cushions the plates, allowing them to store more charge.
Capacitor: A device that stores electrical energy in an electric field.
Electric Field: The region around charged objects where they exert forces on other charged objects.
Insulator: A material that does not allow electric charges to flow easily through it.
