Transnational Migration

Definition

Transnational migration refers to the process of migrating from one country to another, often with the intention of living and working in the new country.

Analogy

Think of transnational migration like a game of musical chairs. When the music stops (or when economic, political, or social conditions change), people move to find a better chair (or country) where they can have a better life.

Related terms

Emigration: This is when individuals leave their home country to live in another. It's like deciding to leave your current chair in the game because you see a more comfortable one elsewhere.

Immigration: This is when individuals enter and settle in a new country. It's like finding that comfortable chair and deciding it's yours for the rest of the game.

Diaspora: This term refers to a large group of people with similar heritage or homeland who have since spread out across the world. Imagine if all players from your team decided to find different chairs around the room - that would be akin to diaspora.
