This is the first stage in Rostow's model where an economy is based primarily on subsistence farming, has limited technology, and lacks infrastructure.
Think of a traditional society as a basic smartphone. It can make calls and send texts (basic functions like farming), but it doesn't have all the fancy apps (advanced technology) or high-speed internet connection (infrastructure).
Subsistence Agriculture: Farming system where crops are grown for personal consumption rather than for sale.
Primary Sector Economy: The sector of an economy making direct use of natural resources. This includes agriculture, forestry, fishing and mining.
Infrastructure: Basic physical systems of a business or nation; transportation, communication, sewage, water and electric systems are all examples of infrastructure.
