Infant Mortality Rate

Definition

The number of deaths among infants under one year old per 1,000 live births in a given year.

Analogy

Think about playing video games and trying to keep your character alive until it reaches level one. If your character keeps dying before reaching level one frequently, it represents high infant mortality rate where many infants do not survive their first year.
