The Fertile Crescent is a crescent-shaped region containing moist and fertile land stretching across parts of Western Asia and Northeast Africa. It was here that early agriculture and civilization flourished due to its rich soils and favorable climate.
Imagine if your backyard garden had all perfect conditions - just enough sunlight, plenty rainfall and rich soil - it would be ideal for plants to grow abundantly right? That’s what Fertile Crescent was for early civilizations – an ideal place for growth!
Agricultural Revolution (Neolithic Revolution): This term refers to when human beings first began to domesticate plants and animals, moving from a nomadic hunter-gatherer lifestyle to settled farming communities.
Irrigation: This is the artificial application of water to land or soil. It was used in the Fertile Crescent to assist in the growth of crops.
Sedentary Agriculture: This is farming system in which the farmer remains settled in one place. It's believed that this type of agriculture gave rise to the Fertile Crescent.
