Central Powers

Definition

The Central Powers were primarily made up of Germany, Austria-Hungary, Ottoman Empire (now Turkey), and Bulgaria during World War I. They opposed the Allied Powers during this conflict.

Analogy

Using our previous analogy about school projects; if Allied Powers were one team then Central powers would be their main competitors trying to win over them in this project or competition.

Related terms

Triple Alliance: A pre-WWI agreement between Germany, Austria-Hungary and Italy forming one part of what would become the Central Powers. It's like an early pact among friends to stick together on future projects.

Treaty of Brest-Litovsk: A peace treaty signed in 1918 between central powers & Russia which ended Russia’s participation in WWI. Imagine it as an agreement where one member leaves your competitor's group midway through a project due to internal issues.

Axis powers: These were nations that fought in WWII against Allies which included Germany, Italy and Japan. They're like the next generation of competitors in a new project or competition.
