Access to Education

Definition

Access to education refers to whether individuals have equal opportunities for educational advancement. It considers factors like affordability, geographical location, cultural norms and government policies.

Analogy

Imagine education as an escalator in a shopping mall. Everyone should ideally have equal access to this escalator (education), but some people might find it harder because they're carrying heavy bags (financial constraints), they're far away from the escalator (geographical barriers) or there's no ramp for their wheelchair (disability).
