Definition

Jurisdiction refers to a court's official power to make legal decisions and judgments.

Analogy

Imagine playing a game where each player can only move pieces on certain parts of the board - that's their "jurisdiction". In law, it's similar - each court has its own "part of board" or types of cases it can rule on.
