Habeas Corpus is a legal action or writ by means of which detainees can seek relief from unlawful imprisonment.
Think of Habeas Corpus as the "get out of jail" card in Monopoly. It's a way for someone who believes they've been unjustly imprisoned to challenge their detention and potentially gain freedom.
Writ of Certiorari: A type of writ, or legal order, from a higher court to a lower one, demanding the records of a particular case so that the higher court can review them.
Due Process: The fair treatment through the normal judicial system, especially as a citizen's entitlement.
Ex Post Facto Laws: Laws that make certain acts illegal retroactively. They are prohibited by the U.S. Constitution.
