Mortality rates refer to the number of deaths within a population over a specific period of time, usually expressed as the number of deaths per thousand individuals.
Imagine you have a jar filled with marbles representing people. If you count how many marbles are taken out (representing deaths) in a given time period compared to the total number of marbles initially present, you can calculate mortality rates.
Life Expectancy: The average number of years a person is expected to live based on current age-specific death rates.
Infant Mortality Rate: The number of deaths among infants under one year old per 1,000 live births.
Death Rate: The ratio between the number of deaths occurring within a population and the total population size over a specific period.
