Definition

Merchant elites refer to individuals or families who have gained significant wealth and influence through trade and commerce.

Analogy

Imagine if some players in Monopoly started owning all the railroads and utilities; they'd become powerful figures controlling major assets - that’s what merchant elites were like during their time.

Bourgeoisie: This term refers to the middle class typically with reference to its perceived materialistic values or conventional attitudes. They're like players who own houses on every property but not necessarily hotels yet!
