Definition
Calorimeters are devices used in calorimetry, the science of measuring the heat of chemical reactions or physical changes. There are different types of calorimeters including bomb calorimeter and constant-pressure calorimeter.
A type of calorimeter that measures the heat of combustion for a particular reaction. Named so because it is sealed like a "bomb" which prevents matter from entering or exiting during the reaction.
This type of calorimeter is designed to operate at constant pressure, typically atmospheric pressure. It's often used when dealing with gases that expand during the reaction.
Coffee Cup Calorimeter: A simple type of constant-pressure calorimeter that uses two Styrofoam cups nested together with a lid on top to insulate the system and keep pressure constant.
