Definition
A bomb calorimeter is an instrument used to measure the heat evolved in combustion reactions. The sample is placed in a small metal container (the "bomb") which is then filled with oxygen and placed inside an insulated container filled with water.
A chemical reaction where a compound reacts with oxygen, often producing heat as one product.
Calibration: The process by which you ensure your measuring device (in this case, your bomb calorimeter) gives accurate results by comparing it against known standards.
Enthalpy Change (โH): The amount of energy absorbed or released by a reaction at constant pressure.
