Non-spontaneous Process

Definition

A non-spontaneous process is one that does not occur naturally under a set of conditions and requires an external influence or energy input to proceed.

Analogy

Climbing up the slide at the playground is like a non-spontaneous process. You need to exert effort (external energy) to go against gravity and reach the top.

Related terms

Endothermic Reaction: A chemical reaction that absorbs heat from its surroundings. It's considered non-spontaneous as it requires continuous energy input.

Activation Energy: The minimum amount of energy required to initiate a chemical reaction, often supplied externally for non-spontaneous processes.

Endergonic Reaction: A reaction that requires energy in order to proceed, similar to endothermic reactions but specifically referring to changes in Gibbs Free Energy.
