Attraction

Definition

In chemistry, attraction refers to the force that draws particles together due to opposite charges or polarities.

Analogy

Just as opposite poles on magnets pull towards each other, so do oppositely charged ions in chemistry. It's like a romantic dance where positive ions are attracted towards negative ions!

Related terms

Ionic Bonding: This type of bonding occurs when one atom gives up one or more electrons to another atom, resulting in attraction between the oppositely charged ions.

Covalent Bonding: This type of bonding happens when two atoms share electrons, creating an attractive force between them.

Polarity: This is a property of molecules that have regions with opposite charges due to uneven distribution of electrons.
