Definition

An arithmetic sequence is a list of numbers where each term after the first term can be obtained by adding or subtracting a constant difference from its preceding term.

Analogy

Think about climbing stairs. If each step has an equal height difference from one another, then it forms an arithmetic staircase. Each time you climb up or down, you add or subtract the same amount from your previous position.
