Long-day plants flower when nights are short; typically these types bloom in late spring or early summer when days are getting longer.
Think of long-day plants as people who love summer and thrive when the days are longest. They need more sunlight (or 'fun in the sun') to produce their best work - which is flowering!
Short-Night Plants: Another term for long-day plants because they require a short uninterrupted night period to trigger flowering.
Vernalization: The induction of a plant's flowering process by exposure to the prolonged cold of winter, or by an artificial equivalent.
Phototropism: A plant's response to light direction, growing towards or away from it.
