Definition

Long-day plants flower when nights are short; typically these types bloom in late spring or early summer when days are getting longer.

Analogy

Think of long-day plants as people who love summer and thrive when the days are longest. They need more sunlight (or 'fun in the sun') to produce their best work - which is flowering!
