Exocytosis

Definition

Exocytosis is the process where cells transport molecules out of the cell by enclosing them in an energy-using vesicle that fuses with the plasma membrane.

Endocytosis:

The process by which cells absorb molecules by engulfing them. It's the opposite of exocytosis.

Vesicle:

A small structure within a cell, consisting of fluid enclosed by a lipid bilayer. Vesicles are used to transport materials within a cell.

Plasma Membrane:

The biological membrane that separates the interior of all cells from the outside environment. It controls what enters and exits the cell.
