Enzyme is a type of protein that acts as a catalyst, speeding up chemical reactions in living organisms.
Think of an enzyme as the conductor of a symphony orchestra. Just like the conductor directs and accelerates the performance of the musicians, enzymes direct and speed up chemical reactions in cells.
Active site: The specific location on an enzyme where the substrate binds and the chemical reaction takes place.
Catalyst: A substance that increases the rate of a chemical reaction without being consumed or permanently changed by it.
Denaturation: The process in which an enzyme loses its shape and becomes inactive due to extreme temperature or pH changes.
