Spliceosome

Definition

A spliceosome is a complex assembly of RNA and protein molecules that excises introns from a transcribed pre-mRNA (messenger RNA) sequence. This process, known as splicing, is essential for the generation of mature, functional mRNA which then directs protein synthesis.
