Sphenoid bone

Definition

The sphenoid bone is a complex, butterfly-shaped bone located at the base of the skull, between the frontal and temporal bones. It plays a crucial role in forming the floor of the cranial cavity and sides of the skull, as well as containing important foramina for nerves and blood vessels.
