Definition

The right atrioventricular valve, also known as the tricuspid valve, is a valve located between the right atrium and the right ventricle of the heart that prevents backflow of blood into the atrium when the ventricle contracts. It consists of three cusps or flaps that open to allow blood flow from the atrium to the ventricle and close to prevent its return.
