Definition

Respiratory acidosis is a condition characterized by an excess of carbon dioxide in the bloodstream due to inadequate ventilation, leading to decreased blood pH. It indicates a disturbance in acid-base balance where the body accumulates too much acid or cannot effectively remove enough CO2.
