Pulmonary arteries are the large blood vessels that transport deoxygenated blood from the right ventricle of the heart to the lungs for oxygenation. Unlike most arteries which carry oxygenated blood, pulmonary arteries carry blood rich in carbon dioxide to the lungs where it releases carbon dioxide and absorbs oxygen.
