Positive selection

from class:

Anatomy and Physiology I

Definition

Positive selection is a critical process during the development of T lymphocytes (T cells) in the thymus, where immature T cells that can properly recognize self-MHC (Major Histocompatibility Complex) molecules are selected to survive and mature. This ensures that the immune system can effectively recognize and respond to pathogens without attacking the body's own cells.
