from class:

Anatomy and Physiology I

Definition

The layers of the skin consist of three primary parts: the epidermis (the outermost layer), the dermis (the middle, supportive layer containing hair follicles and glands), and the hypodermis (the deeper, fatty layer that insulates and protects the body). These layers work together to protect the body from external damage, regulate temperature, and enable sensation.
