Hypoglossal canal

Definition

The hypoglossal canal is a small passage in the skull located in the occipital bone through which the hypoglossal nerve (cranial nerve XII) passes. It facilitates the transmission of motor signals to the muscles of the tongue, playing a crucial role in speech and swallowing.
