A fibrocyte is a type of cell found in connective tissues that has differentiated from a fibroblast and is primarily involved in maintaining the structural integrity of connective tissues. Unlike its precursor, the fibroblast, the fibrocyte is less active in the synthesis of collagen and other extracellular matrix components.
