from class:

Anatomy and Physiology I

Definition

Chronic inflammation is a prolonged inflammatory response in the body that can last for months or years, often resulting from failure to eliminate the cause of an acute inflammation or due to persistent irritants. Unlike acute inflammation, which is a healthy and necessary response for healing, chronic inflammation can lead to tissue damage and contribute to various diseases.
