Indian Citizenship Act

Definition

The Indian Citizenship Act, enacted in 1924 by the United States Congress, granted full U.S. citizenship to America's indigenous peoples, also known as Native Americans. Previously, citizenship was granted to Native Americans only through specific treaties, acts, or military service.
