New industrial technologies and economies provided the means and motivation for some European countries, plus the US and Japan, to expand their overseas empires. These empires extracted resources from colonized and justified their expansion with racist rationales. Colonized peoples resisted in multiple ways. These empires, especially the British empire, created new migration networks. Many indentured laborers from South Asia migrated through these.
