AP World History: Modern
Unit 2 – Networks of Exchange (1200-1450)
Topic 2.1
What key difference can be noted in how religions spread along silk routes during Gupta India and Abbasid Caliphate?
Both eras witnessed peaceful dissemination of religious teachings without any use of force or coercion.
While Buddhism was primarily propagated through monastic communities and traders during Gupta reign, Islam under Abbasids was also spread via military conquests alongside trading contacts.
In both cases, religion was forcefully imposed on conquered territories to establish dominance.
Religion didn't play any significant role in either period's expansion along silk roads as secular trade was the primary focus.
