Unit 4 – Scientific, Philosophical, and Political Developments
Topic 4.8
How did Martin Luther's Protestant Reformation differ from Henry VIII's English Reformation?
Luther’s reform was enacted peacefully through diplomatic negotiations, but Henry VIII used forceful tactics for his reformation.
Martin Luther’s reformation was based on religious doctrine, whereas Henry VIII’s was motivated by personal reasons and political power.
They both called for complete severance from Roman Catholic Church influence and papal authority in Europe.
Both reforms were intended to establish new religions entirely separate from Christianity.
