Definition

The Wolff–Kishner reaction is a chemical process used to convert carbonyl groups in aldehydes and ketones into methylene (-CH2-) groups by treating them with hydrazine (N2H4) and a strong base. It effectively removes the oxygen atom from the carbonyl group, resulting in a saturated hydrocarbon.
