Definition

A nucleoside consists of a nitrogenous base attached to a sugar molecule (ribose in RNA or deoxyribose in DNA), but without the phosphate group that would make it a nucleotide. Nucleosides are the basic building blocks that, when combined with one or more phosphate groups, form nucleotides, the primary elements of nucleic acids like DNA and RNA.
