Gauche conformation

from class:

Organic Chemistry

Definition

Gauche conformation is a specific spatial arrangement of atoms in organic molecules where two substituents on adjacent carbon atoms are closer than the most energetically favorable position, typically within a 60-degree dihedral angle. This conformation is less stable than the staggered conformation due to increased steric hindrance.

congrats on reading the definition of Gauche conformation. now let's actually learn it.
