New Social Movement Theory is a sociological theory that seeks to explain the proliferation of post-industrial, culturally and identity-based social movements since the 1960s. It emphasizes the role of ideology, identity, and quality-of-life issues in these movements, distinguishing them from earlier social movements focused on economic concerns.
