The AFL-CIO is a national trade union center, the largest federation of unions in the United States, representing more than 12 million active and retired workers across various sectors. It was formed in 1955 through the merger of the American Federation of Labor (AFL) and the Congress of Industrial Organizations (CIO), with the goal of promoting workers' rights, fair wages, and better working conditions.
