congrats on reading the definition of chromosphere. now let's actually learn it.

ok, let's learn stuff

5 Must Know Facts For Your Next Test

  1. The chromosphere is approximately 2,000 to 3,000 kilometers thick.
  2. It is primarily composed of hydrogen and helium gases.
  3. Temperatures in the chromosphere range from about 4,500 K at the bottom to around 25,000 K at the top.
  4. Spicules are dynamic jets of gas found in this region that can rise up to several thousand kilometers.
  5. The chromosphere emits strong H-alpha spectral lines due to its hydrogen content.

Review Questions

  • What are the temperature ranges found within the chromosphere?
  • What phenomena can be observed in the chromosphere that contribute to its dynamic nature?
  • How does the composition of the chromosphere differ from other layers of the Sun?
