Tokugawa Yoshinobu was the last shลgun of the Tokugawa shogunate in Japan, serving from 1866 until the dissolution of the shogunate in 1869. His leadership marked a critical period of transition as he attempted to modernize Japan and navigate the pressures of both internal unrest and external threats from foreign powers. Despite his efforts to preserve the Tokugawa regime, he ultimately played a significant role in the fall of the shogunate and the restoration of imperial rule.
