Pesticides are substances used to prevent, destroy, or control pests including weeds, insects, fungi, rodents and more. They can also cause harm to other non-target species and the environment.
Think of pesticides as a really strong bug spray. It's great for getting rid of bugs (or in this case pests), but if you accidentally spray it in your eyes or breathe it in, it can be harmful. Similarly, while pesticides help protect crops from pests, they can also harm other creatures and the environment.
Herbicides: These are a type of pesticide that are specifically used to kill unwanted plants.
Insecticides: A type of pesticide that is designed to kill insects.
Fungicides: These are chemicals that kill fungi or fungal spores. Fungi can cause serious damage in agriculture where it is important to control them.
