Leif Ericson was a Norse explorer from Iceland, believed to be the first European to reach North America around the year 1000 AD. His voyages, inspired by tales of lands to the west, led him to a place he called Vinland, which is thought to be part of present-day Newfoundland in Canada. Ericson's journeys are significant as they represent one of the earliest known European contacts with the Americas long before Columbus's time.
