Definition

The Society of Righteous and Harmonious Fists, also known as the Boxers, was a secret organization in China during the late Qing dynasty. They led an uprising against foreign influence in Chinese politics, economy, religion, and society known as the Boxer Rebellion.

Think of this society as a group of friends who form a secret club to protect their neighborhood from outsiders trying to change their way of life. This is what the Society did - they banded together to resist foreign influence in China.
