Polygamy is a marital practice where one person has multiple spouses simultaneously. In many African societies, it's traditionally been accepted and practiced widely.

Polyandry: A form of polygamy where a woman has multiple husbands at once. It's less common than polygyny but does exist in some cultures.
Polygyny: A form of polygamy where a man has multiple wives at once. This is more common across various cultures worldwide including many African societies.
Bride price (or bride wealth): This is an amount paid by the groom or his family to the bride's parents upon marriage in many African societies. It's often a key aspect of marriages, including polygamous ones.
